Almost two years ago, as part of the preparation for Orange based Opera singer Helen Barnett’s debut album, I drove out to the property south west of Dubbo that Helen grew up on, for a photo shoot.
At the time, the album title was still undecided, but Helen knew it would have something to do with travelling home and visiting one’s roots.
My assignment was not to “over light” the images with tons of obvious studio lighting, but to capture something of the unusual juxtaposition of a dressed-for-the-stage opera singer, in a cow paddock, in front of her favourite tree, in the ruins of her grandparent’s house, etc.
“Homeward Road” is now available from many good music stores.
